I am committed to providing compassionate and empathetic care. I utilize an eclectic approach to help clients develop and explore personal growth and insight, manage stressors, develop effective coping strategies, find relief from difficult emotions and conflict, and to help empower individuals in their path of healing and growth. I have had 10+ years experience providing individual and group psychotherapy services. I have been an advocate for client care within a counseling framework for the duration of my career and more formally in my previous role as patient advocate. My clinical approach is guided by my various trainings and experiences in service of the needs of the individual/s in treatment. I am trained and experienced in providing individual and group psychotherapy, EMDR therapy, Art Therapy, and trauma-focused therapy. My work has also focused on supporting LGBTQ, specifically trans and non-binary individuals. My clinical approach draws from my training and experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, and a Psycho-Dynamic style.
“In my early professional years I was asking the question: How can I treat, or cure, or change this person? Now I would phrase the question in this way: How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for his own personal growth?” ― Carl R. Rogers
As demonstrated in the undertandings of neuroscience, EMDR Therapy is an integrative therapy that can help individuals heal from traumatic events and other disturbing events, experiences and responses. EMDR has been proven to be highly effective in helping individuals to find relief from emotional distress caused by traumatic, stressful, or stuck memories or experiences. EMDR can help to strengthen an individual's resiliency and internal resources to contribute to a greater sense of well being, functioning, and ability to focus in the present day. "EMDR was founded on the premise that all individuals possess an innate capacity for growth and healing. Individuals are viewed as experts in their own healing journey. Partnering with clients to heal trauma and activate their innate resiliency, counselors serve as supportive guides who allow clients to discover their own strengths." --Elizabeth Venart, LPC
Art therapy integrates the areas of human development and the creative process with models of counseling and psychotherapy. Art therapy uses the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. It is based on the belief that the creative process helps to resolve internal conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight. Using their skills in evaluation and psychotherapy, art therapists choose materials and interventions appropriate to their clients’ needs and design sessions to achieve therapeutic goals and objectives. With a trained art therapist, the art is able to create a bridge between the therapist and client to provide a greater understanding of the client’s internal process and experience. It is not a recreational activity or an art lesson, although the sessions can be enjoyable. Clients do not need to have any previous experience or expertise in art. For more information, please see American Art Therapy Association.
“When words are not enough, we turn to images and symbols to tell our stories. And in telling our stories through art, we can find a path to health and wellness, emotional reparation, recovery, and ultimately, transformation.”
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania and meet the requirements to provide LPC candidates all of their required supervision hours.
